DIRECTOR MENTAL HEALTH

Sam Pow, LCSW

Sam Pow is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been specializing in the treatment of trauma, anxiety and depression for the last nine years. His six years of experience running mental health Residential Treatment Programs (RTC), Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) has afforded Sam the opportunity to support adult and adolescent clients through the process of recovering from suicidal crises, psychotic episodes and acute struggles related to personality disorder diagnoses such as Borderline and Dissociative Identity. Sam’s clinical practice incorporates the practical coping skills of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) with the strategies for deeper transformation and empowerment offered by Healing the Child Within, Narrative Therapy, Existential Therapy, Somatic Experiencing and Psychodrama. Sam’s clinical practice is LGBTQ+ and neurodiversity affirming, embraces body positivity, is anti-racist and rooted in social justice.

As a Ketamine Assisted Therapist, Sam’s approach is based on protocols developed by MAPS (Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies) that invite clients to allow Ketamine to connect them to their mind, body and spirit’s innate capacity for healing. In Sam’s experience, Psychedelic Therapy is the next best thing to a time machine. By becoming empowered to radically reconstruct their perspectives on their traumas and losses, clients who felt stuck in their pasts or even tormented by them, come to a place of feeling free to create new meanings for their most painful and frightening experiences. Time traveling to undo past events no longer feels necessary because the story clients tell themselves about those events has been so profoundly transformed. Sam is currently in the process of becoming trained by MAPS in MDMA Assisted Therapy in preparation for its imminent approval by the FDA.
